Hi sunburst79. I do some search. Results are here:
Quote:
chrisf: The fix was using a PCI firewire card instead of the onboard VIA one; so the ASUS P5B-E works but not its onboard firewire.
djamf: P5B-E motherboard
ratapoto: P5B Deluxe
tjkili: Asus P5B Deluxe (without WiFi)
These are from this thread (mostly) and I should be fine with deluxe.

How about commando? Anybody?

Hi guys,

Regarding the P5W DH Deluxe. When shut down, if I unplug or plug in any USB device, the system boots up. I've scoured the "power" and "boot" options in the bios and anything relevant is disabled. Acouple nights ago I touched the mouse(usb) and it fired up. I brought it to my builder and we spent a couple hours trying to figure it out but came up with nothing. I figured I'd look into some Asus blogs and it seems that my issue pales in comparison to problems that quite a few others are having with theirs, with no luck trying to get support from Asus or other baffled users.

If you are considering this mobo, check out the forums first to see what you might be having to deal with. My issue is no big deal in the grand scheme, but I wanted to give y'all a heads up.

Plus, I finally got my Nexus NX-5000 installed. I know it's at least much quieter than the Xion Supernova, but, I can't "not hear it" because my 2-120mm AcousitFans are LOUD for $37.50/p - one is very loud. I'm really disappointed with them. Don't buy these. I should have gone with something else and probobly now will. I'm going to bush them and run some dverb tests to see what I come up with for temps, etc.

Who Knew? - I certainly should have. "Quiet"(not) and "silent" are two very different animals. Duh.

Peace out,

Dave

Well, I unplugged the Acoustifans from the MB and yes the Nexus is quiet - not silent. I'm not sure what I'm expecting. Maybe..uhm..."silent", from the "true silent PSU" or whatever their marketing folks plaster all over their website. Whatever.

Anyhow, I ran a 32 track Dverb test and came up with my usual 121@ 24/48/1024/90%. I let it run for 20 minutes and my CPU temps stayed steady at 44C and the GFX at 51C throughout. I recorded on all 24 tracks for another 20 min. and by the time I quit, CPU was 90-94%, at 47C and the MB was at 53C, and the Nexus was quite noticibly louder. We'll see in the real world what's up.

FYI: I was having trouble with my video and recently updated the nvidia drivers which solved the problem. However, I forgot to disable the acceleration(I had it in the center position), so when I started the dverb I figured I'd start at 128 and ramp up from there. I got 0 dverbs. Sheesh. At first I thought the Nexus was the culprit. Then I remembered, after a few moments of panic. So, disable you hardware accelerations folks.

Peace Out,

Dave

Well at 16 db the Nexus 120mm fans are silent or at least the quietest I've found. I treid all the usual culprit's they are quieter the the "Silent" Pabst model so that IS saying something

Dave, I'm Sorry the PSU is not absolutey silent. I have 2 of 400 Watters and they really are. The fan is themally sensitive (at least mine are) pending on your case you may be able to reorient it and quet it some. at least its queiter then the other PSU. If you do come accross something quieter let me know.

Yeah, thanks Sunburst,

I think I'll be all set for now with the Nexus, and I will see about physically reconfiguring it. It's pretty light too compared to the Xion and the Zalman beast that I almost put in. The Acousicase 360 is very roomy. I have some small mount bushings that will take care of some of it I think. Still a great system though. I can do whatever I want and that is a really good feeling.

Peace out,

Dave

Hey Khatru

Just though I'd respond to your USB-computer-staring-up-issues...

Check in your BIOS ... it's hiding somewhere in Advanced (or maybe Power or Peripherals?) There are some settings there marked "Wake on LAN', "Wake on USB Device" etc ... just turn all of these off (disable) and the spooky PC waking stuff should go away!

Hope this helps

Cheers

Doogz

@ Finne

I'm using a passive PNY GForce 6200 and it works just fine. It's not a powerful card, but for PT is works. It's passive and it stays pretty cools. (48 degrees celcius under load) As far as a power supply, I don't see them talked about for some reason here, but I'm using an Antec Phantom 500 watt power supply, and I can't recall one time when I've hear the fan even kick on with this thing. QUIET!! It's passive with a backup fan just in case things get too warm. As for the CPU, I just ordered an e6600 C2D cpu with a Scythe Ninja heat sink. Folks say it works well enough to not even use a fan with it. Once mine arrives and I try it out, I'll let you know.
