PT-First does not run on my Windows 10 Pro machine
Recently I bought a Focusrite Scarlet Solo interface that came with PT-First.
I was able to install PT and also the iLok license manager, which is running good. The same for the Avid application manager. When I start the program it goes well until it comes to the point that it says: Before you get started, you will be directed to the Playback Engine. Please, make sure that the proper audio device is selected. Once you press ok it starts to initialize the audio engine. It then stops with the message that Pro tools First has stopped working. And the only option you then have is to close the program. This keeps repeating over and over again. I re-installed the whole lot 4 times now, without any change. I even did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on my machine, without success. I also tried holding the N-button when starting the app. No difference here. ProTools First version 12.8.2 Windows 10 Pro x64 Installed the AISO4all driver as well. I have the Focusrite interface connected and it is working when I play audio through it. Here is my hardware report. I hope that someone can help me. Re: PT-First does not run on my Windows 10 Pro machine
You system looks fine and unfortunately, others are having this same issue with PTF.
Although not the best solution, someone else got theirs to work by uninstalling and reinstalling. Check this post for details. Also, you shouldn't need ASIO4ALL since your Focusrite interface has an ASIO driver. Just make sure Windows is not trying to use the Focusrite as the default playback device, as this can cause issues. So, to summarize, Uninstall ASIO4ALL, make sure Windows isn't using the Focusrite as the default playback device, uninstall PTF, reboot your system. Install PTF and try again. Hope this works for you. |

Re: PT-First does not run on my Windows 10 Pro machine
Hi Junkgear
Thank you so much for your input. Do you know if this is an issue specific to PTF? Or can one expect that as well with the 'full versions'. This is my first encounter with PT and I must honestly say that it has not been very encouraging so far. As you can read, I installed and un-installed the app about 4 times now, but each time without success. I was considering to just forget about PT and go for Ableton. (The Focusrite people also supply a version of Ableton with the kit). I opened a support ticket with Avid, but nothing heard yet. Thank you once more for your help |

Re: PT-First does not run on my Windows 10 Pro machine
As far as I know, this is just an issue with PTF. You can also try holding down the N key while PT starts. This forces a hardware refresh and can fix a lot of playback selection issues... at least in the full version. It's worth a shot at this point.
I have also escalated this issue and hope that it will help you get official support a bit quicker. |
