If your laptop has USB 3.0 or superior, then you can go with a USB memory stick. But not just any USB memory stick. This USB memory stick.
It's amazing. 512 GB in a very small piece and it reads 400 MB/s over USB 3. That's more speed than the first SSDs and many current cheap SSDs. I just got one (the 256 GB one) and I was very skeptical about the reading/writing speed - but it really delivers what it offers, at least on my PC.  HTH
