Whilst this is technically true, in practice there really isn't any advantage of AVB over Dante. Both use (more or less) the same clocking protocol, timestamp packets with the presentation time, and offer low latencies. And on a point-to-point connection as apparently required by Carbon there is no contention anyway.

yes the interface will keep working even if you're not using pro tools, but only as an interface not with the ability to use the dsp.

I wouldn't be able to use this system for a touring show. My last tour had around 110 inputs. This is not even in the same league.
you might need such, but many other small venues/shows requires less.

So the new Carbon is $4,000, and the MTRX Studio is $5,000. And an HDX card is $4,000.

The MTRX Studio has 64x64 Dante network, and dual Digi Link connectors.

But you get HDX DSP with the Carbon for a grand less and you get no extra expansion through the AVB network. (Show me a high channel count AVB mic pre anyway). But you get a Protools license with the Carbon? And no Windows compatibility.

I don't know. This just seems like a really odd product placement to me. If Carbon had Dante connectivity, it would be a better product with more expansion options.

Not really. Omni connects via digilink to HD I/o and HDX cards. The carbon is just a standalone

Without the 5.1 monitoring section...if I read the FAQ correctly.

Only stereo dedicated monitoring outputs, but I don't even remember when I last used anything else than DSUB outputs for surround monitoring outputs

MTRX Studio seems more adapted for me for 5.1+ configurations (monitoring, bass management, time alignement, video Sync) and a more logical upgrade path. For music studio, Carbon looks great...if sound quality matches other highend available interface.

I've got an i9 9900K w/64Gb of RAM, HD Thunderbolt Native with Avid, Apogee and Digi converters. I've tried pounding this system into submission @ 32 buffer and it took forever to get a minuscule stutter out of it, running 2019.12 Ultimate on Mojave. This box reminds me of an Antelope Zen Studio+ I have, that and an 2015 i7 rMBP is pretty sporty in itself. I'll pass!
