Default Using a Digital recording studio/mixer midi out to controll protools

I am looking for a cheap alternative to control protools 8, korg Nanokontrol got my attention, but reading peoples opinions on it it seems the price matches the quality. But Digital recording studios goes real cheap used these days, so could i use one that has midi out like the boss br8 br600 or zoom mrs 1266 and map the transport functions and faders to the protools mixer??
