Unhappy My iMac died

OK, my iMac died tonight...seems to be hardware related as the power light won't come on, the fan runs at break neck speed and nothing shows up on the screen.

I was running PT LE 8.0.3 on a osx 10.5 on a Power PC iMac (circa 2005) with 002 hardware. Loved my set up as it did everything I wanted it to do. The computer was 7 years old...bound to happen I guess.

What is the lowest cost way to get back up and running again? 002 is fine so I'll keep that. I know I need another computer and I found a used but new-ish 24' iMac running 10.6 for a good price. Can I purchase an upgrade from 8 to 9?

What are recommendations here?

I agree... If your looking toward MAC than fixing it is cheapest... You can get a decent (2010 model) Mac Pro with dual core for around 600-650 but thats still over twice as much as repairing your current machine.

I would not bother fixing a powerPC mac at this point. Any intel mac, even the early mac mini is so much more computer. If you got 7 years out of that imac it doesn't owe you anything.
