how do I add an AKAI MPD16 midi Controller to my

I have a digi002, PTLE 6.1.1., Intakt by Native Instruments, and (also have Battery but with no wrapper) and the AKAI MPD16 Controller. How do I intergrate the controller as part of my gear? Do I do something in Windows first? I'm new to midi and have no idea how to get this pad to control the sounds in Intakt and eventually Battery when I get the VST-RTAS wrapper. I have the controller plugged into the in of the midi port on the digi002. From there...d.u.h..n't know.
