Default CPU overload on stop

I've been dealing with -9173 processor errors for the past couple of weeks.

I have a session with one audio track and one instrument track, yet I've noticed that when I hit stop, the system usage meter hits 100%. It is basically running around 5% until I hit stop on the transport at which point the CPU meter goes red, then back to 5%. This has been happening on all of my sessions. After a few stop and starts, the session crashes.

Anyone having the same experience?

Mac Pro 2013
8 core
64GB RAM
Mojave
Pro Tools 2020.5
Raid 5 Thunderbolt

What IO buffer size? What plugins are in the session?

Do not check ignore errors while troubleshooting.

Suspect plugins. Do all the usual troubleshooting.

Trash Prefs using the PT Prefs utility (and do so again between other tests)

Move .aaxplugin files out of the plugin folder. trash prefs again. ... you are now running with just a auto magically created clean reinstall of the default PT plugins what now happens to those sessions when you stop them?

Try using built-in output

Try from a newly created admin account

Try starting with a newly created empty session. Not a template, not a copy of another session.

Try combinations of all of the above.

---

System usage meter hitting 100% may be a denormalization effect in plugins... what plugins do you have in the session? But the meters usually don't provide much help, so I would dive into the above troubleshooting tests.

Thanks for the quality troubleshooting advice. It turned out to be an Arturia B3 V2 plugin that was the culprit.
