Default FTP Transfer problems

After downloading an OMF from my FTP site, I occasionally get the error message when trying to import the OMF:

Could not complete the Import Tracks command because TOC "parse" error - expected object ID, got 0x13 in container "advocate A cs.omf"In omfsOpenFile.

I then will re-download the file and the same message comes up.

If I ask the editor to repost it to the FTP server it occasionally works fine.

What is going on with the FTP server where it will sometimes corrupt the file?

I think it may have something to do with if I am downloading while it is still uploading or if there is heavy traffic?

Anyone else have this problem?

I also occasionally get this prompt:

Could not complete the Import Tracks command because Invalid TOC code read (0x00) from TOC in container "Advocate B cs.omf"In omfsOpenFile.

and this prompt:

Cannot open the selected file because file is not a Pro Tools session or OMFI file.

All of which come after an FTP transfer.

I also sometimes get a corrupted Quicktime movie as well.

Any thoughts????

Thanks!!
Dallas

it is prudent to 'stuff', 'zip' or otherwise archive your file when you upload it to an FTP site. often the servers are PC-based and don't like MAC files of any kind.

Digidelivery is different in that it encripts its files itself.

I zipped a session last week and it ended up corrupted on the other side. I don't know what is going on.

How is it being zipped and unzipped? Through Stuffit? Drop Stuff/Stuffit Expander? Or OS X's compression scheme? I received stuff'd files that ended up "corrupted," (using Stuffit Expander) but were fine when I decompressed using OS X's utility.

I wonder if the files are being zip'd using OS X's .zip function. The .zip implementation in OS X was poor in Panther. I haven't tested it with Tiger. I use DropZip & StuffIt Expander.

I was zipping via DropStuff. Is there a better OSX zipping program that may help alleviate this problem?

Thanks guys for your help! Has anyone else got those "purging" messages before?

Probably not. I am not in front of a system with DropStuff v10, but do you have Preserve Macintosh Contents enabled? If the files being zip'd have resource forks, and that option is off, it may be the cause of your problem.

Simply ctrl-click on the folder and select "create archive". I never had cross-platform problems with OSX built-in zip-feature. Even when sent over the net.

frank.

sure the client, or end user got the whole file? sometimes it happens that they get the whole file and it looks corrupt.
