Default external firewire hard drive problems

hey all...

I just have my pro Tools on a 2.7 G5 mac & I was a PC user before, so I'm a lil lost with the Mac interface... so I need some tips to handle 2 or 3 things...

remember also that I'm french so I'm not used to all tech terms... lol

well, I want to use an external hard drive to store my pro tools sessions files
at first, I was unable to make my G5 just recognise the HD, so I went thru my pc to format & do a partition...
so now my G5 does recognise it, but I 'm just unable to write anything on it actually.
my mac says that it can't be modified...

any tip to share ? :

the hard disk is a firewire/usb2 one

thx in advance

Hi,

If your mac isn't reading it from the Disk utility! then go back to your PC and format it to fat 32. Hopefully your mac will read it has fat 32! now go to your Disk utility and format it again to mac osx extended journaled.

1. since you have a G5 dual 2.7, the BEST disk solution is a 2nd internal SATA.
2. you CAN use your external firewire, however, you just need to re-initialize it using Apple Disk Utility. (it is probably read-only right now since you probably formatted it NTFS)

Go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility

Select the drive, and choose: initialize - mac osx extended journaled

BUT -- I suggest getting a 2nd internal SATA drive for audio storage - and use firewire as a backup/transfer drive.
