Thanx all for the great responses..
I am researching, investigating as we speak. So many options...
I do like the keyboard workstation idea too..thanx halfguard !
Just to clarify further..the kids will not record vocals. I'll do that either at my house, or in the studio.
They will need to sample off turntable and also need synthesizer instrument sounds for Hip Hop.
I have also found out, that a really good older buddy of mine works for Roland, so I need to look that way for substantial discounts.
Please keep your excellent suggestions coming...

if you can get a good deal on the Roland Fantom-s the boys will be thrilled. it's a pretty amazing piece of kit. Here's some info on it I think it's recently been discontinued so maybe you could find one cheap.
