sound output problems

so for some reason i was playing around in pro tools today and all was fine, the sounds were coming out from my monitors which are running through my digi001.
i then closed pro tools and started to play around, surf etc. the problem is this:
all my alert sounds, and internet movies are playing through my powermac's speaker now instead of my monitors.

did i do something?? i mean, i got alert sounds fine from my monitors (through my 001) just fine before.

did the soundcard do something? i mean, it would be nice to hear again from my monitors instead of my 1 inch powermac speaker.

pro tools still works fine through the monitors, and so does itunes, but nothing else goes through.

any help?
this is strange because i didn't do anything.
