Would option #2 require an iLock dongle to launch? - i.e. is it _that_ separate from ProTools?
Would like to hear the answers to these two questions - Especially the Ilok but it doesn't seem like it would be needed since you have to have the 11 rack connected in the first place

Are there any perceived or non-obvious disadvantages to option #2?

--None that I can think of. We would still be able to do everything in Pro Tools (embedded Settings, re-amping etc.) and the standalone app would be designed to run alongside Pro Tools if desired. The actual user experience shouldn't be all that different.

--No. The app would not require an iLok

I Agree. i typically do not use 11 outside of pro tools so the standalone app has never been an issue to me. assuming as you say all the features would stay available, just run outside of pt, i would be fine with it.

I think it's unanimous. Who would be opposed to a stand-alone editor as long as full functionality was there? As long as embedding in PT is still happening there's no disadvantage!

Anyone who wants to use PT as it's been could still use the older versions!

Option 2. PLEASE!

I'll even buy a second 11R if Avid does this.

Option 2!

I hope this comes to fruition very soon and is not the only thing in the works for the 11R. Most people including myself are of the impression the 11R is a dead product. Delivering something soon would help alleviate that fear.

Hey maybe The Chimp is asking this opinion in connection with / applicable to only an upcoming Eleven Rack II model.

(just kidding.... I'm sure The Chimp wouldn't try to pull off that kind of monkey business. ..would he?)
