But seriously, my point is that the hardware isn't really a dealbreaker to switch DAWs.

Aside from the fact that the Ensemble isn't made by Apple... it's made by Apogee. I've no experience with one, but from my experience with the Duet... I wouldn't get one, personally.

Besides, I love my 003. I can't see myself upgrading to an 004/Mbox 3 unless there are some serious benefits to owning one. I mean really... how many people out there switched to an 003 from an 002? It's pretty much the same thing, other than the 003R+, which I wouldn't want anyway.

I'm not in any rush to see new hardware. I'd much rather see new software.

well I would love to see a new LE hardware unit w/ an option for more than 16 inputs. some better converters. And just something NEW for gods sake. I would imagine after the years since 003 dropped there have been some advances in technology that could help our hardware out a bit.

The 003 is a pretty great solution if you need more than 16 ins.

Keep in mind the 003 only came out in 2007. However, it's basically just a slightly improved 002, which is old technology.

Hmmmm.... lots of $$ to burn, eh?
Chasing the latest hardware/software is an expensive game to play. I went back to some stuff I did years ago with PT 5 and the original Mbox... still sounds pretty awesome to me.
I love PT 8.03 and will be sticking with it for quite a while with my DIGI002R.
New for new's sake just doesn't make economic sense! Better A/D converters.. well yes.. but seriously, the 002's work pretty well. I've heard a lot of awesome stuff (my own and many others) made with it.
I suspect AVID is trying to come up with some sort of mutant merge of HD/LE. Processor speeds and computing power are so powerful now that external processing is becoming redundant and unnecessary in may cases, and when they finally come up with a true 64 bit version.. well, watch out.
They don't want to lose out on the profits from the HD hardware but users have found LE to be more than adequate (especially w/MPT) for 90% of music production. Can't speak for the vid users though.

Avid is should be more focused on software than hardware right now.
They have far more weak points there that need to be addressed.
The concept of chasing Apples hardware changes can be a big enough burden, but they have to deal with both PC and Mac.
What I'm wondering is will Avid come out with a multi-channel USB box to address the lack of FW connectivity Apple has created in the the laptop line?

Also we are probably due new HD hardware to stay competitive with the Apogee/Logic partnership.
