Default MBox/Ibook 500MHZ audio failure

Help!!!! I was recording some audio in a remote location...four channels at a time. Something like 20 minutes into the process I began getting intermittent spit. This increased until there was a steady stream of "spit", making the audio beyond ugly. I'm using the Mbox into an ibook 500mhz with 256kram. I was recording to the internal hard drive. Any assistance I can get would be so very much appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "spit" but have you downloaded the latest M-Box driver& firmware updates from this site? There is a known problem with noise that the driver update fixes.

You are recording to the internal drive. Long takes are probably killing you. One of the golden rules of DAW is never record to the same drive as your apps and system. You should have a 2nd, *qualified*, audio drive. (I know, I know - it works sometimes) But sooner or later, it will bite you - just when you least expect it and need it to work the most.

These are some very valuable tips. I'm going to kick the tires on these ideas tonight.....any other guesses would be much appreciated. This will be a good place to start.

Thanks for your valued advice.

Other things to check.. make sure you have all the updates available for the MBox from the downloads section of this site.. and limit the record allocation in your preferences to 60 minutes or lower.

Make sure your drive is "optimized" (as Norton calls it).

Optimizing is different from defragmenting; it gathers all the data on the disk together thus maximizing the unused block/area on the drive.

My iBook works better with ProTools when I optimize my drive. You can use a software such as Norton's Speed Disk.

The problem seems to have been solved by installing current firmware/software updates...should have been an obvious place to look first. Many thanks for being a great resource. Hope I can return the favor some time.

Thanks
