Default How do I import DVD video to a video track in PT 8??

Hello and greetings once again to all.

I was wondering how I would do this. I'm going to be doing dubbing on a DVD of a documentary originally in English to Spanish now. I've already done work with video but with QT file. This one they tell me comes directly from the DVD. Should I rip the DVD? How do I do this? I've never ripped anything except my CDs into iTunes.

Please help. This Sunday might be the first session for dubbs.

I'm using Pro Tools 8 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 3 of RAM. It's been incredibly stable and doesn't hiccup almost at all.

Thank you for any and all help.

Regards,

Serge

If the DVD is not copyrighted you can convert the DVD to the DV format using Mpeg Streamclip. DV is the most friendly format for Pro Tools.

Dougfather, thank you very much! I'll see about the copyright thing. In any case, I believe I'm actually working for the people who have the rights to make the Spanish version, so everything should be legal. Of course, another matter would be if the DVD is copy-protected.

Thanks again!

Well...yes and no, provided you have permission:

1) Extract the disc with mac the ripper and then use streamclip.

2) Rip the disc to mp4 using handbrake.

Option 2 will still work in Pro Tools but as mentioned DV is the best file type to work with.

Or you can use "format factory" and rip it as mov. or any other format.

I'm in a similar boat in that I'm doing a background score for a DVD. I was given an AVI file that I view with VLC. I use PT8 with MPT2 but I do not have the DV toolkit. Is it possible to import the video into PT without the DV toolkit or do I continue with it in a separate viewer?
