Just a guess, but I'm thinking this might just be an "early product" thing...

It's pretty rare to be able to maintain an acceptably low problem rate during the first production run of a product like the S6. So, they have to stop the production line, reengineer the "bad" parts, then restart the line...lather, rinse, repeat.

So, it's not unusual to have problems keeping the supply "pipeline" full as schedules slip.

Then too, Avid probably has a lot of preorders from some number of their "bigger" customers.

And it would be a real bitch to have to "sit on" a 64 fader unit for some big post house because they were short one fader unit.

So, I would not be surprised to see Avid offering the "a la carte" modules six months or so down the line...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

My thoughts exactly, although I would expect Avid to (somewhat artificially) stretch this time frame to more like 2 years, especially if S3 studio is on the way so they can keep a clear multi-tiered approach.

Do people expect S3 studio to have another module with transport/jog/touchscreen?

I sure hope so.

S3 Studio. Or just S3S.

Has a nice ring to it.

Price it right and they'll sell a TON. Price it wrong? More ground lost.

Yeah I guess this is the one I'll be waiting to see. I think for a lot of us audio/music guys they really tend to overlook the importance of the form factor. I have midi keyboard sliding out beneath (vax77 out my cold dead fingers!), 5u 45 degree rack behind, and will always be KC junky, so qwerty off to the side and awkward mouse placement is a no go. I want something small enough to have all that in front of me.

Coming from artist series the touch screen functionality in the next gen eucon stuff will have to improve a lot IMO to be faster than just keyboard mouse. At this point I'm sticking with artist and hoping there might eventually be enough of a used market for S6 parts that I can do ala carte that way.

Call a GC Pro rep.

RSPE I'm guessing as well. This price is right off the dealer price sheet.

Not sure what the :roll eyes: is for.
