Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Completed the new build last night:
Asus Sabertooth x79 2011, i7-3820, Corsair HX750, Corsair Vengeance 32GB, Win 7 Pro, Coolermaster Haf. The build was relatively simple and the PC runs like a champ, no problems at all in the build. Installing PT LE8 on it however; A nightmare. going on the 11th hour now, and still not successful on the install. |

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Finally up and running, Pro tools 8.0.5 installed. The only thing I am mising is the AIRplug-ins.
To Install LE8 I had to do one piece at a time-then I updated. Everything is running very cool-I had my PC on all day and the hottest my MOBO got was 40C, my cpu stayed a cool 22C. Everything else was in between, 32C was about the average. I am getting some system interupts without much going on though. |

if your staying at 8, you will never access more than about 3.5 gb of the 32gb of ram your installing. typically these huge sticks of ram do have decreased performance in comparison to smaller counterparts. its not officially supported to run on W7 so they will offer no support if you go that route. why 2 ssd drives?? i could see one for the OS but thats about it. they are still questionable on longevity and are known to decrease performance after a certain amount or writing, rewriting over the same cells. your one drive link is bad. assuming its a 1tb WD black? personally i would be more prone to slim down on the system and work on getting an updated version of PT

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
I'm having a difficult time figuring out what more PT10 will get from my system than PT8. Any ideas?

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
rough question.
with pro tools 10, exactly the same as 8, though things will run a bit better in W7 64bit and as stated, 8 is not supported on W7 though it is known to work. 10HD or 10 w CPTK does give you the new timeline cache feature witch generically saying loads the audio files into ram for insanely fast response time and overall better performance. with this a few extra gb is fine. typically 2-6gb on top of the roughly 4gb for the os is more than enough for music production. so far initial tests are showing better performance in W8 than even W7. its obviously really early to tell but i would be watching this very close as 8 will be full release in october. also if you have ANY plans of going to PT11 in the future, 10 would give you a much better upgrade pricing structure and start getting your aax plugins in order.

64 bit is becoming essential, even if all of your apps aren't yet. Plus, there are always options like Reaper or VE Pro for hosting heavy VIs outside of Pro Tools. I can fill up my 16GB if I want to, easily.
