Actually, the DM2000 and the 96k 02R are different products. The DM2000 has many more channels, much more horsepower, and will sell for around $20k when it's available in the spring. The updated 02R has 50-ish channels, less overall processing capability, and will sell for around $11k when it's available (in the summer?).

AE, I would like to know how this new 02R has 56 channels... to me are 32 for digital slots like CD8At and 16 Phantom/balanced.. So they are also adding the stereo returns of 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24. However, or you use 32 with 4 slots plus stereo returns (equal to 40 like 02r v2) or 2 slots and 16 XLr balanced plus 4 stereo channels (also 40)... does the meterbrodge comes with the board?

If you haven't already, check out:
http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi...gRMC0000802R96

My understanding (and this is just from reading about the product) is that you will have 24 dedicated analog inputs (as in the current 02R, but now there will be one fader per channel) plus the 32 inputs from four slots... giving you 56 total. The is implemented with three fader layers -- so you have 1-24 on the first layer, 25-48 on the second, and 49-56 + 8 bus submasters + 8 aux send submasters on the third (it's about time they provided a convenient way to control these submasters!). Since the current 02R only supports two fader layers -- and only on the 16 mono channels -- these faders can now only support 32 channels total, and 16 are already used for the dedicated analog inputs. That's why we now have to choose EITHER these analog inputs OR I/O from slots three and four. On the new board, you can use all of your dedicated inputs and card I/O simultaneously.

Hope this helps.

The meter bridge appears to still be an option, but I'm not certain.

Another question is whether there are any dedicated effects returns above and beyond the 56 full channels. Not clear from the site.

And last, it is claimed that the 02R96 will provide the same level of Pro Tools support as the larger DM2000...
