Unhappy DAE error 9073 is making me crazy

Hello,

I have protools 8.0.3 CS2, vista 32. I playback and record my sessions on an external HD esata velociraptor 10 000 rpm.

I already had the same pb with my last external HD 7200 rpm Western Digital :

Protools stops really often during playback and recording with the DAE 9073 error. I defragmented my HD to see if it was working better. No results.

Here is my sandra

Your (French???) report says your drives are 5400 rpm.....
That Iomega is USB AND FAT 32 where externals need to be Firewire, and ALL your drives need to be NTFS.

With your Quad being only 2.0 (cpu),, and C drive 5400,,, 8MB cache,,,, I don't know, your bottle neck could be 1 or both? It would be better to have a WD 7200 rpm with 32 MB cache for your C drive, but being a laptop,,,?? Laptops come loaded with a lot of junk that run in the background, try uninstalling or disableing a few. Even temp, and fan speed apps will take badly needed cpu power and at 2.0, not much to spare? 4 gigs of ram should be good, make sre your firewire has a TI chipset? Also, laptops don't always have a compatible sound card(??) You might want to disconnect your USB drive (FAT 32) while using PT's. Hang in, and good luck, Mike

My computer is a quad core 2ghz. It's not that bad I think.

The funny thing is that the external WD 7200 rpm worked better than the velociraptor 10000 rpm.

Maybe everything comes from my C: drive. I don't know. But I know that everything can work perfectly with 40 tracks and crash with only 2 tracks. That's curious.

Everytime the error occurs the external drive (10 000 rpm) gets inaccessible for 2 minutes and then it works till the next 9073 error appears.
