Default M-audio question - total newbie

i have an M-audio keystation 61es, OSX computer hooked up through an M-audio firewire to my lovely mackie monitors. this is a pretty unsophisticated question, but i want to know how i can make the keyboard play through the speakers without having to open up garage band. is there a program out there that doesnt take up so much RAM? or just a way to get my computer to play it straight up? thanks, sorry to bring down the mean..

The 61es, which I have as well, still requires a host based application to drive audio out your monitors. Garage Band is usually a standard choice for MAC owners as it is comes installed as part of OS X/iLife. However, there are a number of standalone application/virtual instruments that you can install. Plugsound Pro (UltimateSoundBank) runs stand-alone and you can try a stripped down free version (UVI-Player). Reason has a standalone offering as well (although I've never used it). I would suggest surfing for virtual instruments and looking for some that run as stand-alone as well as a plugin.

That being said, I don't find GB to be that resource heavy.
