Default Is UAD worth it?

Summit TLA100 is what I use while tracking, I can get it to sound LA-2A ish.

AAXDSP!!!

I don’t own the C1 Comp yet

UAD is worth it yes, for mixing. Apollo low latency is a complete scam and I have learned this the hard way after a huge outlay (read uad's small print.. 4 plugins in series with zero latency but only if the plugins have no additional latency, so only the 2007 circa Mk1 stuff, very few plugins in the big picture).

My apollo RTL through console is routinely at 8+ms, so, way too high.. just by putting a couple of comps and an EQ.

Jeepers! I would never have considered tracking through UAD plugins because I knew they introduced extra latency... but that is far beyond what I expected! My plan was to just use UAD in a a way to lighten the load on the CPU so I could keep the sample buffers lower for longer.... but it sounds like that isn't possible either? I would have thought even if UAD plugins introduced latency, they could still run comfortably at 64 sample buffers and ADC in Pro Tools would just kick into gear and take care of it when playing back a mix while tracking.

yes of course for mixing that's fine.. most will add about 24ms latency each and the PDC will take care of it.

Because pro tools has an internal 1024 buffer mixing engine, UAD adds that plus whatever the latency of the plugin is.

My gripe is with apollo and console which is billed as zero latency monitoring and it's all a lie.
A big one.

that's very good the summit. use it a lot. CL1B is overrated IMO and SO expensive..
It's ok and nice enough at smoothing stuff out on super slow settings but it gets super clicky if the attack is even a slight bit too fast..
UAD LA2A mk2 is far superior (IMO)

Yes, but for tracking the TLA wins

And I just got the Arouser

I'd be totally fine if I just had the Arouser and maybe the TLA100 or PSP Oldtimer. I love the sound of the UAD stuff, but my constant struggle with it is the latency, and that it kills off line bounce speeds, which is a deal when I'm needed to bounce lots of stems.

Are you talking about the plugin or the hardware CL1B?

Here's another case in point. Nice new Neve Pre from UAD. Not a lot of features as no EQ, sounds as expected when cranked.

https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/u...ve-preamp.html

£115 in the UK. No thank you!

I'd rather send my $$$ to Greg Scott for starters and only $29 at that.

http://thehouseofkush.com/plugins/omega-n

Arguably a better sound too

Stephen

Yeah that plugin release was a gaffe (you know it was drew)

And people who owned the Complete Neve Bundle should have been credited the plugin to their account

It was made for the Arrow users to take advantage of that single DSP chip.

Yeah that’s a pass for most users.

Default Re: Is UAD worth it?

Here's why UAD sucks (yes one's hard earned $$$).

Current 24hr flash sale weighs in at $79. Plus they give me a voucher to spend every month so one the EU add the sales tax, using the voucher gets it for under $70

https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/p...igo_vsm-3.html

Same code to run on the expensive UAD DSP chips.

https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/m...satellite.html

Showing as £229 here. That's like $320 at today's rate

So, even when I win big, I'll likely be buying the equivalents to run native and without the drawbacks of running them on the UAD platform.
