Re: Installation failure, Program starts, then shuts down
Reinstallation of what? Pro Tools? Sure reinstalling Pro Tools is easy. Just try it... after uninstalling the app in the control panel. Do a full uninstall and reinstall of the interface driver as well.. in all cases downloading new installers from their web sites.
But especially with Windows, if there are problems they are more likely to be with Windows not Pro Tools. So after trying reinstalling Pro Tools the next thing is to try reinstall Windows. Grab a spare drive or partition and do a full clean reinstall of Windows, do that with a clean Microsoft installer not some crapware polluted recovery media/partition. Then install the bare minumum needed to test stuff, like the video driver and driver for your interfgace Pro Tools and the latest iLok driver. Do not install any plugins or other applications. Test if that works. If does you can go ahead and install other things you need, migrate your user accounts/files etc/ to this new parotion and once all running and tested clone that over your old boot partition. Do not let Windows auto install drivers, get control of this yourself and make sure you are getting the latest/supported drivers for key components installed. Avid Link is a bit of a toxic mess, so not clear why you are worried about this. But that is unlikely is relevant here. If you get stuff working I would uninstall Link, run the uninstaller packaged with it, all widely discussed on DUC in the past. Link just looks like a scary mess of poorly packaged junk, includign security concerns. Hopefully First can run with out that, but lilely relies on Avid Cloud Components, also a toxic mess, but you likely can't delete those... all reasons that I would not use First for any use. And it's a over-crippled version of Pro Tools. If you want Pro Tools then sure go with Pro Tools, but if you just want a DAW there are many other options. Still having problems after a Windows reinstall post a Sisoft Sandra report here, and it might highlight some issue, but if Windows reinstall did not fix it is a long shot. See under the Help Us Help you link up the top of this web page. And don't waste time "trying both" as you test other stuff. You need to do what is known to really work... Set Windows to use the build in audio interface and Pro Tools to use the Focusrite ASIO interface. |

Not sure if your problem is the same or not, but you will have to provide a little more information on how your system is set up before anyone can really help. Also take a look at the Help Us Help You thread, which contains information on PT setup, optimization and troubleshooting. |
