Default EQ's??

I hear lots of people talk about using certain EQ's for different things but why are they different and what makes them different. I did experiment last night. My go to EQ is normally waves Ren EQ so I took a vocal track and EQ'd it to sound good with the Ren EQ and then placed those EQ settings into Sonnox EQ to hear if they sounded different. They did, the Sonnox sounded cleaner of that makes sense. So my question is when would you use a certain EQ, wouldn't you alway want to use the Sonnox as that's cleaner??

I think it depends on the music. For example if a band wants a lofi style gritty sounding vocals then taking a clean/transparent EQ might be your choice for subtracting but to add
the necessary color then you would go with the EQ that gives the vocals a diff tonality. Much like hardware Eq's and compressors engineers use them sometimes for changing the tone of the vocals.

This doesn't mean they were set exactly the same. Different EQs have different slopes, undershoot/overshoot, etc. You have to be very careful to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

The Sonnox eq contains 4 (+1 with GML option) different eq profiles.

So your "settings" can potentially sound a number of different ways on the same eq.

For me, EQ III 7-band is my "go to" for general EQ. Waves Puigtech is a must for adding "sparkle and air"(but MAAG is a close second) and FabFilter's ProQ 2 is great for surgical precision. I have lots of other EQ plugins, but these cover everything quite well. I will use the Bomb Factory Pultec if I want a little grit(Puigtech is silky smooth). Waves H-EQ is versatile as all get out, but I rarely use it in favor of simplicity

I use Sonnox for cuts and add it back or boost with analog.
It doesn't seem to work well for me the opposite way.
The Avid EQ's are also pretty great for cuts.
For insane narrow cuts, the Waves Q series work really well.
All of the software EQ's work differently.
There is no real standard.

upsampling, hasn't been mentioned either.....

which makes a sonic difference but can hinder performance.

DDMF IIEQPro, Meldaproduction MAutoDynamicEQ, Maag EQ4, Waves Puigtech, Softube Trident, Acon Equalize, etc... I use a whole bunch of different ones. Just matters what I'm going for - I have a "feel" for all my EQs and use them accordingly.

The version of Sonnox Eq RTAS I heard was crap vs. TDM.
Same happens with McDSP G v5 Eq RTAS vs. TDM.
In OSX.

Some people match the curves instead of the knob values, with pink noise and ozone or similar, Nugen visualizer, flux, etc...

curves matched, there is a harmonic & phase difference, not as noticeable as knobs value matched...
Some have also a noise floor difference, like T-Racks3 Classic Eq.
still there is a difference, the better the DA, the better the loudspeakers, & room acoustics, the ear, easier to hear the difference.

Some people say there is no difference, but they lack something in the chain to hear properly.

There are 2 kinds of Eqs, Magical & Surgical.

some music styles require "a certain sound", if you lack "that sound", you are breaking the rules/limits of that music genre.

Like Coca Cola or Pepsi for example, they are black, if you have a pink Pepsi you are breaking the rule, does not look legit. Looks fake, suspicious, strange, weird, etc...
Pepto-bismol looks pink, if you have one that looks Black, looks weird, suspicious.
