Default Using a DigiMax LT with 002 Rack

Hi everyone...

I have the highly regarded DigiMax LT that i want to use to record drums into my 002 rack. i have the lightpipe hooked up, but im having difficulty with a few things (as I am new to using optical cables with word clock and yadda yadda...lol)

First off...with the Digimax, only the first channel seems to be coming out of the Pro Tools. And I am also getting intermittent clicks and pops..but they are both set at 44.1, so i think...

when i set the clock to external in Pro Tools..it says the external clock is invalid, and it reverting to internal. grrr!

so all i want to do, is get all 8 mics on the drums to work through the Digimax, and i want to hear them all on the Pro Tools! any ideas what im doing wrong?

please help!

thanks everyone in advance.

f.c.

be completely sure that you are running both at either 44.1 or 48, and set the Word Clock inside protools to Optical(ADAT)

-set the digimax' clock to internal 44.1 or 48 (whichever you wish to record with)

-create the session at the same sample rate you chose on the digimax

-open your hardware setup dialog in PT and make sure that you have rcca=spdif, optical=adat selected and set the clock to adat

you should be good to go.

thanks.

I am pretty sure i did that. on the front of the digimax, there is a selector switch to set the clock at 39, 44.1, and 48. for some reason, the 48 is always lit, even when i push the button to toggle from 39, 44.1, and so forth. and like i said, in PT, i have it on Optical ADAT...but only one channel from the DIGIMAX comes into PT. I can see the levels on the digimax lighting up for each mic, so i know they are working...but i cant seem to get the PT to pick them all up.

if i create 8 new audio tracks in PT, having the SPDIF as the input for each, should all 8 DIGIMAX channels come through?

this is testament to my newbie knowledge of Digitial inputing. ive alwyas been analog.

thanks again!

make sure that the ext clock button is not depressed.

don't plug anything into it's clock inputs on the rear

make sure that pro tools is set to external adat clock

make sure the optical cable is seated well...

if this doesn't fix it, you may need a new optical cable, or dare I say it, the unit may be bad (the 48k button should not remain lit when you scroll through)

hmmm...

i may not have had it set to ADAT in PT. but i fear what you say might be right. i didnt understand why the 48 was lit the whole time. i feared this was a problem.
the optical cable is new. but anything's possible.

is my theory on creating 8 tracks with the SPDIF as the input correct? any recommendations. i ask becasue, i am an old school in the sense i would love to still have each drum mic isolated...

i think i am confusing myself at this point.

thanks for all the quick responses everyone!

adat and spdif are not the same thing, it won't work that way...

I didn't understand why you choose spdif as your input. You should select ADAT 1 - ADAT 8 for your inputs not spdif in or something else.

May be it helps

me neither. my digital knowledge beyond PT itself is quite limited. I always associated SPDIF with the Optical cable...didnt know about ADAT. So, i would have to set up PT to accept ADAT input? and once that is done it will transmit each channel of the DIGIMAX indivdually? (i.e.- channel one on digimax to track one in PT, and so forth?) wow, if thats the case im in heaven!!!

still not sure about why the 48 bulb is always lit. i hope it isnt broken. I wrote to who i bought it off of already...

haha..man, just when i think i know what im doing...i find out that i am truly clueless.
