Default Mastering machine not recognising PT

Hey

I am looking for some advice on how to
Hook my mastering machine (tc finaliser express) to my pro tools LE 8. I am using a digi 003 as my interface. There’s no problems with the wiring. I have tried both RCA and optical connections.

The problem is I can’t get the input to read on the mastering machine as it’s not recognising my pro tools playing. On the machine I have both set to digital input and digital output and the 48hz indicator is flashing.

I think it’s something in pro tools set up that’s not recognising the mastering machine.

I’ve tried multiple attempts to mess around with the settings in the setup but have found nothing I’d making the master read protools input.

If someone can shed some light it would be really helpful.

Thanks

Hannah.

You need to set it up as hardware insert

I/O Settings on the Inserts tab. The in/out of the insert need to be the same (ex - channel 1 for in out vs channel 1 in and 3 out).

It doesn't have to be set up as an insert. It can be routed as a send and return to new track if desired.

Use S/PDIF. In the 003 setup, set the optical format to ADAT and leave the 003 on internal clocking. Patch two S/PDIF cables between the out/ins of the 003 and Finalizer. On the Finalizer, set it to the S/PDIF digital input and set the clock source to digital input. In Pro Tools, set the S/PDIF I/O as an insert or as the usual track output/input. You should be good to go.

Another thing. Depending on the 003 configuration when you started whatever session you're in, you may need to default the input, output and bus paths in the I/O Setup after making the above changes to expose the appropriate S/PDIF paths.
