Default Mackie 1202

I have an opprortunity to buy a used Mackie 1202 for $100. This unit is the predecessor to the current model, 1202 VLZ Pro, which I was considering buying for the pres and having a compact mixer. Does anyone know how the old 1202 pres compare to the 1202 VLZ pres? Any opinions?

I have the old 1202 model and really like it alot. There isn't much difference and for $100 bucks I'd say get it. I don't know that the pres are much better on the Mackie than on the Digi though. It just gives you another level of control. I like my mackie alot. As for comparing to the Pro- VLZ there are a couple of differences that I can't remember at the moment. My bandmate (who has the same studio setup Mackie into a 001) uses the VLZ and I can't hear any difference at all between the two. Both are really quiet nice mixers. You might go to Mackie's website and see if they list the differences? Good luck, I wouldn't hesitate if I were you. It's a great mixer.

Cool Gary, I guess that's the difference. I bought my mixer about 3 years ago and my buddy bought his a year later right when the VLZ's came out and like I said, I can't hear a difference. I've got pretty good ears and can usually hear things in songs most people, including other musicians, don't hear. But maybe I've had my amp up too loud for too long to notice the subtle differences between the two pres.

I still love my mixer

sometimes it all boils down to whether or not it sounds different.

Could be that you're not using the mixer in a way that the new designs would make a difference. Or maybe it's just marketing.
