Default Transport Offset display

I am working on a project where the SMPTE start time for the film is 10.00.00.00 (10 hrs)
There is a countdown ten seconds before this.
I have offset the start time in the project window at 10 hrs. When I roll the VHS, nothing happens in PT until it hits the 10 hrs mark, then I get synch and I'm away, with my transport readout showing the minutes only, not 10 hrs and the minutes. So far so good. The problem is, to access the countdown,
I need to set the offset in the project window to 9.59.00.00. This then means that the readout in PT is one minute ahead of where it should be. The reason I need to have the countdown accessible is that I get the location audio on a DAT, with synch pips. I then fly this in and line it up in PT with the SMPTE from the VHS.
Not a huge problem, but I would like to be able to have the same TC on PT as on the VHS.
Any ideas appreciated.
The problem is,

Might sound stupid, but, unless you have PT TDM, PT LE doesn't have TC ruler and doesn't considers TC as an option...
Could you be more specific, how do you sync 001 and VHS? That's sounds impossible to me without any external device...

I send the SMPTE to an Opcode Studio 64 XTC. This converts it to MTC which is then read by PTLE.
BTW, I don't find the lack of a SMPTE timeline a problem. I simply convert the msecs to frames by multiplying by 40. (40 msec = 1 frame)
