Default Disable Spotlight Indexing?

Hi, I am installing Pro Tools 8.0.3cs2 on my new 2.53 GHz MacBook Pro with an Intel i5 processor. In the setup instructions I told that I should disable spotlight indexing of "background" drives. What does this mean? Does my external FireWire drive count as a background drive? Any info you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I am running OS 10.6.3 and following the instructions for configuring my system for use with an mBox 2. Thanks!

You will be disabling in preferences on the Mac's internal drive. external drive has nothing to do with it.

In System Preferences select Spotlight and then the Privacy tab... Hit the plus sign and add all your record drives to the list.

Actually it's best to disable all of your drives period, even the OS boot drive. The process of Spotlight indexing any drives screws with PT.

Is the OS boot drive the same thing as the internal drive then? Sorry if this is a dumb question...I'm not terribly computer savvy.

I've never had a problem with indexing the system drive & any version of Pro Tools - and if you use OS X Mail you need Spotlight enabled for a full search.
