Default digital clip?

I have been having trouble with turning up tracks(live vocal, mic'd guitars) on the mixer and getting what sounds like clipping, but neither the master fader nor the individual track seems to be anywhere near clipping. I am crackling if I have over -9dbs on the fader and the limit meter is no where near the red. To try to fool it into getting an overall louder volume, I duplicated the track. Now niether track crackles even when I turn my monitors all the way up when solo'd, but together they crackle with my monitors at low volume and I havent raised the overall volume of the track one bit. What am I doing wrong? Mic technique?

The clipping may be onboard your mixer and then recorded into ptle. Even though the input stage on your interface was not clipped. I don't know.?????

No mixer on board, just recording straight into digi 002. Using monster 500 cable, and an sm 57 for guitars, KSM 27 for vocals. It is the strangest thing because the tracks wont crackle(or clip?) when I turn the monitors up, only when the fader reaches over -9dbs, or I guess a collective over -9dbs when using the two tracks as mentioned above. Thanks for trying to answer though, no one else has even tried all day.

do you have any plug-ins on that track. The gain of a plug-in can clip a track.

I have been trying to figure this thing out when I found that if I pan the track left, it doesnt make that crackle sound. I figured it was my monitor at first, but when I reversed the connections on my L R main outs, I find that the crackle is only coming from the right main out. I checked the monitor outs and they work fine, but i dont have the volume control knob of the 002, just the fader on the mixer. I guess I have a bad right main out. Hope digi will replace.

When you say "the mixer" are you talking about a physical outboard mixer or the "virtual" mixer on your screen?
