This years upgrade - Money for nothing.
Avid must be relying on the money they've had from us over the past few years from the past few (almost annually) upgrades.
This year they have no new features but still want our money so they come up with this BS cloud collaboration and support. I'm sure everyone on the DUC are wonderful people but I can't ever see the need for me to collaborate with you and I'm sure the same is true in reverse. Support? Are they planning on making an inferior product that needs support? Loyal upgraders shafted again. Come on Avid haw about a bit of loyalty back? Anyway how is it an upgrade if I already have PT11? Re: This years upgrade - Money for nothing.
If you already own PT 11:
"Buy an annual upgrade and support plan for Pro Tools or Pro Tools | HD (if you already have version 11)—and get future upgrades through March 31, 2016 (coming soon)" The price will most likely be less than $199. I guess. http://www.avid.com/US/products/pro-...ware#licensing

Re: This years upgrade - Money for nothing.
Well said. AVID need to understand whats up and deliver a product that can compete with the rest of the DAW market. They might think a higher price tag will make it ooze quality, like Apple. And yes, a high price tag can make it ooze if it can be justified with a product that is exceptional. And guess what, for Apple this is true becos they deliver premium quality products, unfortunately for AVID this is not true. They want to make us pay their continued vacation. That's whats up. :--)

Point #2, agreed. Most everyone established in the industry already has their own network of trusted collaborators. Now going back to the word "trust", my main issue with the collaboration feature is whether I could even trust Avid to have the financial muscle to protect my I.P. Bigger players in the game, such as Apple, have already proven that it's easier said than done. Basically the only way to protect your creative assets it's to literally pull the plug. It's a real shame that's the case because for those starting out, collaboration can be a huge benefit to them. So when some suggest that Avid is neglecting artists, they really aren't with the new tools on the horizon. However, for myself it's just not the tools I was hoping to see. Point #3: It's like going to a restaurant and paying for your meal first or asking your fans to pay for your next album in advance! ;-) |

Oh, no - even worse. Like paying for your meal first without knowing what it is or WHEN or IF you will have it at all. But you'll get unlimited access to the dinning room and you'll be allowed to talk to the staff while you wait.

Re: This years upgrade - Money for nothing.
How about some incentives at least. Some people are comparing this to the Waves WUP. I've had issues with the waves model in the past but at least they give incentives.
Last week i renewed part of my WUP at a cost of $81 and they sent me a $50 e voucher. I put this towards a bundle that was discounted from $500 to $100, I got the bundle for $50. Waves made another sale and I was happy - winners all round. |
