Default Re: A better drum machine plug-in than Boom please

I exclusively write and record rock and guitar pop.

I generally use Boom by choosing the "Nine-O" kit and limiting my sequence to kick and snare.

I program a simple rock pattern and essentially use Boom as my click.

The sound is passable and it's easy to program. I find this workflow allows me to create tracks quickly.

If I like the way the track is building, I later replace Boom with EZ Drummer, Strike or live drums.

I.E. drum plugins that have you write the entire beat using individual midi notes rather than pre made drum loops.

I'm on the same page as him if that's the case.

Problem is that everyone is using loops these days and the drum kits are not being updated enough so they're sounding outdated.

I mean,
boom only gives you 5 drum kits.

I wanted to throw my brand new DAW out the window when I saw that.

I am so p*ssed off that I'm fuming.

They've really got to stop making this stuff so one sided.

I mean, we shouldn't be punished so badly for trying to make our beats original.

we get 5 drum kits to work with and people using samples get thousands of drum loops in the new pro tools LE packages.

this is absolutely pathetic.

Every new drum kit they come out with sound 20-30 years old.

so yea,
If anyone has any good drum kit plugins (NOT SAMPLES or LOOPS)
for pro tools 10
let us know what they're called.
Old post, I know. But no one's mentioned my particular solution, so I thought I'd drop my two cents.

Use the loops. Drop them into Structure Free, slice them up & make your own kit. Over time, if your organizational skills are up to snuff, you can have yourself a very nice collection of drum sounds. You can process them anyway you like so that kick drum doesn't sound like a 30 year old kick drum..... unless that's what you're going for.
