I exclusively write and record rock and guitar pop.
I generally use Boom by choosing the "Nine-O" kit and limiting my sequence to kick and snare. I program a simple rock pattern and essentially use Boom as my click. The sound is passable and it's easy to program. I find this workflow allows me to create tracks quickly. If I like the way the track is building, I later replace Boom with EZ Drummer, Strike or live drums. |

Use the loops. Drop them into Structure Free, slice them up & make your own kit. Over time, if your organizational skills are up to snuff, you can have yourself a very nice collection of drum sounds. You can process them anyway you like so that kick drum doesn't sound like a 30 year old kick drum..... unless that's what you're going for.
