the battery issue doesn't fully rear it's head until you're in the middle of a session and you start losing mouse connectivity AND you forgot to buy extra batteries. when something so stupid brings a complicated session to a halt, the musicians generally assume that YOU are the problem, not the mouse. I think I licked the problem by having a rotation of 12 rechargeable batteries on hand.
If I have a lot of musicians coming in at one time I will turn the mouse off the night before just to be sure that I remember that the mouse is the weak link. By having to turn it on before the session, it reminds me that it can go down at anytime and I'm not caught off guard. Nothing gives a musician more confidence than when the session comes to a stop and the engineer says: "hold on, I have no idea why this thing isn't working"

I still have my logitech for back up. I tested it on the Mac Pro and it works great, minus gestures. Grabbed a Magic Mouse today as well!

So far the computer is great. Did a fresh Mountain Lion install yesterday. Now installing everything. Had to get a FW 800 to 400 adapter to connect my 003. Installed PT 10 and tested it. Works great so far. Installed PT 11 but haven't launched it yet. So far everything has been smooth.

btw, those funky new black round Mac's will not be making an appearance on my table.
that black flower vase is an EPIC FAIL on soooo many levels. I wrote a huge post on it here on how it will affect TV networks using PT, Studios, Home Studios, post facilities and just about everyone else who does audio post for a living. Unless you are okay with buying a Magma chassis for tb, enclosures for all of your hard drives and video card like BM, etc. and more enclosures for anything else and then having a spaghetti factory of thunderbolt cables all over the place in addition to the the extra heat and noise. And then waiting for Avid to qualify all of this to then get it all to work.

Someone mentioned change is good. I agree except when you got back to the dark ages to reinvent it all over again. The Quadra 650 to the teal then blue macs to the G5 to the macpro did an excellent job as an all-in-one enclosure. Now apple just started all over?

Yeah, I think the current design is PERFECT. The new one is cool, but it's more like prosumer if anything. I'm sure it will kick ass performance wise, but external expandability sucks because all you have now is external expandability whereas before you internal and external.

Anyway, i'm enjoying my 2009. Just bought the Radeon 5770 in hopes for better dual screen performance over the stock GT120.

No doubt the performance will be amazing and an improvement, however it won't be as if you're going from VHS to 4K. And second, if you think about the power of todays 12 core, 2.66GHz now and w/64gb of ram (ram is ridiculously cheap these days) on PT11 which can actually finally utilize all that raw power.. .you're talking about a serious set up compared what has ever been out there.
Is it worth buying racks of chassis, enclosures, cables, space, extra heat and noise, extra clutter, redesign for some for all of this for a vase?
A lot of users will be in for a rude awakening when they finally upgrade. Whether end of the year, next year or sometime in the future.

I didn't. Lol. I'm just taking a chance really. Found one for $125 shipped so won't kill me too much if it doesn't help.

2009 Nehalem models are supported for HD and HDX so those are worth their price, if you ask me...
