New Mic
I'm looking to upgrade my mic. Any suggestions? I mainly do vocal recordings. Working with a budget up $300.

Re: New Mic
If cardioid is all you need, try to save a little more and get the Miktek C1(the single pattern version of their C7, which is excellent). Since the MXL V89 is now discontinued, its replacement is the CR89 and its a no-brainer at this price:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MXL-Cr89-Low...item4d1c0b7f5f I used the V89(same mic, different color) as my main vocal mic for 3 years and never had a complaint(my neighbor studio STILL uses his for 98% of his vocals, unless the client rents a U47). I bought a second one and they are now my overheads, and ALL the drummers that work here are very happy with the results

Re: New Mic
What mics do you have currently. And are you doing vocals for music? Or voice overs, or what? Do you intend to record other sources?
The NT1A is a decent mic, but maybe you could a couple of other utility mics before a new main vocal mic.

Re: New Mic
Not to be critical, but I don't know if a $300 mic is going to be enough of an upgrade if you already have a $100-150 mic. If you're coming from an SM57 or something, then yeah. But you may want to aim a little higher pricewise to make it worth your while.
In the $500-750 range is where you really start to get some bang for buck. The Shure KSM series, the Mojave stuff, the Neumann TLM102, and so on. You can use a 15% off coupon from Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, Music 123, to bring down the price somewhat on most of these. |

Re: New Mic
I currently have a Samson CO1, it was part of a package deal when I bought my monitors. I record vocals for music.
