Default How to record crystal glasses and other questions

Hi all,
I'm about to embark on my first project fully recorded in PT, and am curious about some engineering things...

First of all, I would like to record a set of 12 crystal glasses. I will likely have to overdub a few parts, as i will only be able to play two at a time and I would like to make some fairly thick chords and textures. For mics I have a pair of Neumann KM 184s and an AKG 414. Do you think it would be best to record each part with a stereo paior, singularly with a KM 184 or singularly with the 414? I know, I should probably just try it myself, but was hoping for some advice to set me off in the right direction

Second of all, I 'm recording in a room that is not so great. It's rectangular, about 15x12 feet with a ten foot ceiling and a hardwood floor. Empty, it might be a nice room but as it is now with all my furniture and a rug covering half the floor it is kind of mediocre. I recorded some guitar in here a little while ago and was not really happy with the sound of the room. Is there a way I can deaden up my room a bit without having to spend serious $ on Auralex sound proofing? (this is not an option...) I can get some matresses, and also some blankets, etc... Should I cover the rest of my floor? What about the walls, or my windows? I will be processing things with some reverbs and delays on this project and would like for everything to be as dead as possible...

Many thanks for any advice. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions as I go along, and really appreciate the helpful insight I receive from others on the DUC who are more experienced

Cheers,
Andrew

I've never used your microphones, but I would suggest you record the glasses in mono, and try both mics and compare, and see if you can also record them each to separate tracks so that you can mix them and pan them in different ways, and maybe add EFX or reverb in varying amounts.
