Default Processor upgrade

I am running a G4 733 with about a gig of ram. I want to make the switch to OS X (yeah I'm still on 9) and PT LE 6 but I am unsure if my processor can deal. Should I go for the processor upgrade? I feel like I have heard troubling things about this....

So many decisions!

Chris

i just upgraded my PowerMac G4466 digital audio, wtih a 1.2.Ghz Powerlogix CPU upgrade. I went from an 11track count on the DaveC test to 21! I got the powerlogix from Macmall $379w/shipping. The install was easy and I'm very very happy. I hsuld be ablet to get at least 2-3more years out of this machine.

It's been in for a week or so, no poblems at all.

i have a quicksilver 933, was debating going with a 1.4 single or a dual 1GHz from powelogix. At OWC they give you money back for your old card. Mines with $165 so its not a bad deal. From what im hearing the dual is the way to go. With two processors it works great in OS X with PT. Anyone else here??

I was in the same boat with the same computer. OSX/PT6 was kind of unusable with the 733. I upgraded to the gigadesign 1ghz (~400) and it has been night and day. I think the big factor was that the 733s had no backside cache. So even though it seems like only an extra 267hz on paper, it feels about twice as powerful. The duals were more expensive and people seemed to be having some trouble with some of them. I may wait until those go down and upgrade again later to a dual 1.5ghz or something, but for now I'm very pleased.
