Re: EFX vs. SFX
I was one asked to make it sound "Nearer" so I turned the monitors up a bit.
Also on a London Police show The Bill "Can you make it sound like Alien" Sadly these days we dont get to mix in Dobblie anymore

Re: EFX vs. SFX
What about DX?
not to be confused with nat dia(DX), or source dia(DX), B roll Dia, and certainly not VO.

Re: EFX vs. SFX
this is actually a serious situation for us all and its surprising a language had not yet been constructed for it in the same way there is for framing (in camera) and every other aspect of film.., mise-en-sene, diagetic, ect.., its a royal pain in the butt when two people are trying to communicate but cant express their needs.
ive only been doing this a few years (at least i have a couple of broadcast credits :) ) and i have never heard of M + E or D * E can i ask what they are?? M:)

Re: EFX vs. SFX
M+E=Music and Effects
D+E=Dialogue and Effects Both are mix minuses, the M+E is used for international versions so they can be mixed into different languages. The D+E is very useful for promo or spot production as a different music bed can be added if scenes are edited down to 30 or 60 sec promos. Hope this helps.

Re: EFX vs. SFX
Don't forget DME (Dialog+Music+Effects). That is a "mix minus narrator". It can also mean "mix minus VO", which depending on how VO is defined can be entirely different than "mix minus narrator".
