I'm realy keen on trying my new 8.0, but haven't been able to see anything.

Good luck with fixing this.

Did you do a clean install of Leopard? What about Pro Tools 8 (meaning you did a clean uninstall of any previously installed version of Pro Tools that was installed)?

Can you give us your complete system specs?

Thanks.

edit: Did a clean install of Leopard by the way due to a hard drive failure.

Mac G5 duel 2.5
8Gigs Ram
2 Raptor drives internal. 1 solely for backup.
Seperate tracking drives & storage drives.

Never had a problem until upgrade to 8.
Hope there is a fix soon cuz otherwise I just wasted my money on the upgrade as well as a bunch of plugs that are 8 compatible while losing some of my older version plugs (not 8 compatible) that are on my iLok but not being authorized when 8 first starts up..
Do you possibly still have old, incompatible plug-ins installed? Have you tried trashing preferences and/or testing from a new admin account? Do you have any other peripherals attached to your computer?

Thanks for the quick response DTS.

Yes it was a clean install of both PT8 & Leopard.
(Our system drive failed in one of our HD G5's so we decided to Upgrade the OS & PT.)

I will try a few other things & let you know if I can pinpoint a problem on our rig. Let me know if anything comes to mind as well.

Thanks,
Phil

hey all - i'm also getting a bus error after 'exited abnormally'

on PT LE 8
macbook pro 2.33
2 G RAM

OSX 10.5.5 (and also in 10.5.6)

It seems to be specific to when i try and render Xform files.

Sometimes i also get 'protools critically low on memory' before a crash.

I have tried
reinstalling both OSX And protools, repairing permissions, trashing preferences.

any ideas?

Have you looked at the other solutions customers had from this thread, such a doing a clean install of Leopard and Pro Tools 8?

Have you verified that all installed plug-ins are up to date?

The 'critically low on memory' message seems to indicate you're somehow maxing out your RAM. Do you have a lot of samplers or other apps running that could be using RAM? Have you considered maxing out the RAM on this system? I know on mine getting it up to 4GB increased the performance significantly.

I was having the same msg and I found couple plugins that needed to be updated after I upgraded to PT 8, also if you use any firewire hardware with protools, make sure you have the right version of it.

Hi Digitech!

yes I have tried a clean install on protools and 10.5.5 (10.5 updated with the combo update to 10.5.5)

I now have this problem when i have 0 plugins installed.

I have 2g of RAM. Unfortunately my limit is 3G on this model Macbook, and from what I understand, an uneven number amount of RAM in these computers actually decreases performance (do to how OSX addresses memory in parallel or something).

I just used a tool (Irmem) to verify its still okay.

I watch in activity monitor as my RAM is slowly used up and then the number of page ins and outs starts to go up, and the figure hovers around 10-20M of free RAM. This seems stable for a while, and then PT will just quit.

If I pause a task and use Ifreemem to free up all any additional memory - (usually resulting in 500-800MB free) Protools will still eventually crash.

I've got exactly the same problem, but with Media Composer 3.0.5. Just installed it on my Mac Pro (dual 3.0GHz Intel Xeon Mac Pro; 16 GB RAM; ATI Radeon 3870 grfx card)--- and I can't even open MC. Upon launch, it's the ""Bus error" in thread "MainThread"" and then crash.

The prospect of $250 in Avid's pocket for ONE phone call of support on this isn't exactly delightful; any help would be desperately appreciated.

Do you ONLY have Media Composer installed or is Pro Tools also installed?

If you have Pro Tools installed as well, that's likely the problem - the only supported versions for co-install are Media Composer 3.5 and Pro Tools 8.

hi, i suddenly had this problem too, before i opened one of my sessions and then pro tools 8.0 (Leopard 10.5.6,Macbook 2,1 Intel Core 2 Duo Ram:2Gb) crashed. So i opened Library>Application Support>Digidesign>Plug-ins and i taked out away the file analogfactory.dpm; now pro tools working but i can't use analog factory se plug-in (version 2.1.1). It works with logic and in standalone mode!
Anybody can solve this problem?
