Who can get this connection working???
I want to send audio out the optical s/pidf port.
I have successfully gotten the optical output of my cpu to send audio into PT but i want to send audio OUT of PT using the optical as well. This option does not come up in the hardware setup. THE input gives you the option [Optical (S/PDIF)] but there is no option on the output side. CHOOSING digital 1-2 or doing the control + to main output in not the answer it does not work. (unless I am doing something wrong). PT 12.7 HDX Mac Pro (mid 2010) running 10.10.5 with a Protools HD I/O. My end goal would be to have ipdtl send digital audio out the internal cpu sound card to the PT HD I/O to record and then of course the reverse send for talkback. I can get sound in but how do I get it out? |

Re: Who can get this connection working???
Hmmm, I've not done this, but its going to depend on the proper settings under the Hardware setup for the HD IO box. You need to assign and configure so the SPDIF IO becomes available. This is somewhat non-intuitive and I suggest playing with it a bit. I have a pair of HD IO boxes here(8x8x8) with a 192 and it took me a while to get the ADAT ports configured and working. Its really down to configuring the digital IO and then routing on the IO grids.
When it comes to recording sound from the computer, into PT, I usually resort to analog, which is generally fine for reference or guide material(it saves me all the hassle that you are diving into)

Re: Who can get this connection working???
Sure this will work.
It would help if you more clearly explained what exactly you have set up. Just post screenshots of your hardware setup and IO output pages, that would help a lot. Presumably you talking about the chassis optical ports. There is no "Digital 1-2" setting on the setup page for the outputs, because well the setting you are looking at in that section are not "Digital 1-2", that output may be an ADAT output. And (as Dave says) you can configure that digital IO to outputs in Pro Tools however you want... using the pulldowns above in the Setup and labeling names in Setup>IO>Output. You might find Source-Nexus Pro perfect for your routing needs. It will let you route to and from ProTools Skype, Chrome, FaceTime, Source-Connect, iTunes or any other application that uses core audio sound drivers with out any external cables
