Default Does PT10 support the C8?

There are currently different infos even on the AVID pages. Some pages on AVID site about PT10 list the C8 as a supported device, others don´t list it.

So what´s the real fact?

Is the C8 supported or not? AVID? Any word on this? Can you please correct what ever is the wrong info on your pages? It´s really confusing.

Thanks,

Frank.

It is supported. But I'll be honest. I have been having issues from the get go. the command 8 freezes up a lot. I'm thinking about calling avid support tomorrow about it.

I've been having issues with the C8 too. If I have it connected and boot up my MacPro, it will freeze for what seems like 5 minutes. I can control my mouse cursor but I won't be able to click anywhere or apple-tab between apps. Once it's not frozen anymore, if I launch Pro Tools 10 HD, it will freeze on "Setting up Midi". I have to force quit, trash prefs, I do a permission repair for good measure, reboot with the C8 disconnected, and everything works fine. If I connect the C8 and set it up in Pro Tools once it's launched, it will work fine.

I thought I had seen Avid pages indicating it was supported, but I couldn't find them when I looked just a minute ago.

But...

On the pages where I previously saw it supported, they stated that Command 8 will not be supported past Pro Tools 10...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Of course I jumped the gun. Correlation does not mean causation.

I booted up this morning to have the same 5 minute freeze on the Desktop and have PT10HD freeze at "Setting up Midi" even when the C8 is disconnected and powered off. So, ignore my hasty theory on the C8 causing me grief.

Sadly, this is the latest firmware. Mine works with Pro Tools 10.

BUUUUUTTTTT...........................

I get huuuge CPU spikes at 512MB Buffer settings and below! I have an RME Fireface 800, I use Windows 7 with i7 Quadcore, 12GB RAM and 8 processors.

When I turn off the Command 8 in the "Peripherals" section in Pro Tools, I can work smoothly at very low buffer settings, even 64MB (Minor cracks and pops).

With Command 8 engaged, the most menial tasks like switching plugin windows with my mouse will trigger a low cpu usage prompt from Pro Tools 10. I just trouble-shot this last night, so I am very very sure of this.

If I want to use Pro tools 10 with Command 8 at a stable level, I have to set buffer to 1024MB

Seems like the PT 10 code has not been optimized for efficient communication with the Command 8

You buffer will be 512 bytes not 512 Megabytes (MB).

I can only resist correcting this the first three times I see it written wrong each day...
