Digital I/O discovery/question
Hey all - I just wanted to pass something along and also get some feedback from some of the more technically gifted members. I'm running PTHD w/ a 192 I/O. I've grown very attached to the programs I've written in my 2 Lexicon PCM80's. Just as a goof I tried running the outputs of the PCM80's(set for internal clock 48k) Digitally into the AES inputs of the 192 running at 96k - and - VOILA! it works! I use SPDIF to AES converters I built on the outputs of the PCM80's. The 192 must do the conversion math easily 'cause it's just 48k x 2. It seems to sound fine. Pretty good actually. Way Way quieter than using them analog. The Lexicon D/A's are pretty noisy so this is a godsend solution.
Question is, is there going to be junk or artifacts in the signal? Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? As opposed to using expensive sample rate converters. Thanks - Eric |
