Default Application Manager 15 million files and 104 GB

Hi all,

I thought I would share this as I've seen quite a few posts related to systems slowing down if the Application Manager is running.

Application manager seems to be creating folders beginning with names like "Jetty...." and lots of sub-folders in my Temp folder on my Windows 10 system.
Each "Jetty" folder contains roughly 45 MB of files.
I had about 15 million files in a several thousand sub-folders with file names related to Avid and totaling 104 GB.
This is on my primary boot partition and it is a SSD.

I disabled Application Manager and the folders stopped appearing.
Enabled and it started to recreate these same folders so I'm pretty certain these folders are related to Application Manager.
Seems to be related to third party software that Avid is using from ej-technologies.

System is working perfectly fine and stable at 12.4.0 and I have the latest application manager 2.5.2.160 installed so I can leave it disabled.

If anyone on Windows 10 is experiencing performance problems and is running Application Manager then perhaps try to search for folders that begin with names like

jetty-0.0.0.0-1696-AvidApplicationManagerHelper.war-_-any-6839863891320020635.dir...

Consider disabling this software if you don't need it.

cheers

The whole Java thing leaves me wondering . . . Anyway you can also use something like CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) to clean up the mess if you don't want to disable or uninstall the App Manager.

Do you have any of the options for Automatic/Updates/Downloads enabled within Application Manager?

Hi - I'm logged in, and it's on a Windows 10 Professional system and the settings in Application Manager are

Notifications
- Show Apps ( checked )
- Show Feeds ( checked )

Allow Data Collection ( unchecked )

Administration
- Allow Admin Functions ( checked )
- View Activity History ( unchecked )

Updates - (not automatic)
Downloads - (not automatic)

In the 3 minutes it took to reply to this post, it added 1gb of files in the temp folder.

Thanks for that additional info, logged it for Engineering to review. Anyone seeing this on Win7 or Win8/8.1?

I noticed this issue with "Jetty" files in the my Temp directory on Win 7 Pro several weeks ago.

I hadn't cleaned that directory out since I rebuilt my machine...

I just picked up 15GB of disk space!

Thank you so much for posting about this issue.

I have Windows 8.1 and found that this problem gobbled about 200 GB of my hard drive in a few days. Like so many I earn my living via the computer and the stress and time that this cost me, before stumbling upon this thread were hugely significant.

Thanks again

Mike

Be aware that if (like myself) you want a lean install, simply uninstall "Application Manager" and "Cloud Services" if you don't need these features.

I added it to our system policy as malware, and i block it on the network.

If it acts like Malware, it is Malware.
