Default Pro Tools 8.01 crashing issues

Hey guys

Wondering if anyone else is having these issues with PT LE 8.01

I'm getting so fed up! I really want to throw this bloody machine and the software out of the window!

When I process a stereo audio track with the x form algorithm pro tools crashes!

I get the following error message:

The other issue I am having is when I am playing sessions and this occurs randomly, PT will give me an error message saying that "Pro Tools is critically low on memory" and shuts down

Is this a ram issue?

If so, should I upgrade my ram to more? I thought pro tools could only read 4 gig of ram max?

I hope it's not something more serious that's wrong with the machine.

Many thanks

Default Re: Pro Tools 8.01 crashing issues

I'm having the same problem with the "Critically low on memory" message myself. I'm currently trying to troubleshoot it. I was thinking it might have been a plugin problem, since I had a couple outdated plugs. But after removing those, the problem kept happening. Now I'm working on getting rid of the rest of my plugs (a few at a time) and seeing if it keeps happening.

So far it is. I'm pretty much down to just my AIR plugs left in the plugins folder, and I can't imagine those are the problem, since they pretty much came with the program.

So now I'm leaning in another direction myself, like a RAM problem? (Or, more scary, my hard drive?) I've had all this hardware for about 2 years now. It shouldn't go bad that quickly, should it?

Default Re: Pro Tools 8.01 crashing issues

You're right, it shouldn't go wrong that quickly.

It does sound ram or hdd related, but Digiech support are trying to help me with this issue as well.

As soon as I get to the bottom of this problem, i'll let you know what the solution (if there is one) was to the issue I am facing.

Please do let me know if you come across a solution, would be intersting to see what you have found out.

Default Re: Pro Tools 8.01 crashing issues

Yes, please keep me posted as to what you find out. As of now, I've completely removed all of my plugs, and I am still having the problem. I've done all the trashing prefs/databases, etc. already. I will try the repairing permissions next, although I don't know if that'll make any difference, as I haven't installed any new programs lately.

Just FYI, this seems to be happening usually when I'm recording. I'm in the middle of this project where I'm converting a bunch of my old cassettes to digital, so each recording pass is like 3-5 minutes a shot, and it's a tremendous waste of time to get towards the end of a song and have it crash right before the song is over and you don't have a chance to save it. I'm able to get about maybe 3 songs in and then it'll crash almost like clockwork on the 4th. Very inconvenient.
