Good question. I also wonder if it can be recalled in a global way, e.g., if there is a track present called "Master" will it automatically group it into a layout? I would read the manual on this, but you have to register with a serial number to download it. Mine arrive Monday.

I found this:
http://euphonix.com/artist/products/...port.php#tour8

  • Lock any MC Control fader to any track via the Direct Assign feature
  • Create and save up to 48 different fader configurations as Layouts with your project file

I am sad to see no fader flip mode in HUI—I shall wait patiently for my PT9 changeover.

I just wrote in confused about something and the more I research, the more I realize how much HUI sucks, as it means that most features are essentially broken or unreliable. Wish I could switch to PT9 for the next few weeks.

Good news: my MC Control Arrived and in the soft keys for "Show Tracks" in PT9 there is a button for "Show Master Tracks"—hooray.

Hopefully, I can program one of the hard 12 buttons below the screen to do this as well.

Before I get too excited about this... it means "show master faders (only) in Pro Tools" which is not what I want. I simply want to focus on the masters on the MC boxes. Aargh.

It's solved with Layouts and being able to assign the layouts to soft keys. Fantastic.

Are layouts stored with PT sessions?

Yes, they are - they're saved on a PER SESSION basis. So a layout you create will only associate with that session. If you want layouts to be associated with all sessions, you would have to create a template with it's associated layout, then use that template for all your Pro Tools sessions.

I prefer to just use Show/Hide Memory Locations to bring up only Master Faders, only Aux Inputs, etc.

It's a heck of a lot faster to recall memory locations on the numeric keypad than it is to find the exact soft key on the MC Control.

And you don't have to figure out different ways to recall them when the session moves from Artist to C|24 to ICON, etc. The numeric keypad is always there.

My 2 cents.
