Default Protools 8.0.3 appears frozen

I am currently running Protools LE 8.0.3 on a Macbook Pro (4 GB RAM, G-tech external firewire drive for projects, Snow Leopard OS. Most recent patches applied. On occasion, Protools becomes unresponsive, the rest of my mac system is fine. CPU Util is about 5%. I also did all the recommended OS system configs on the hardware (power saver options disabled, and CPU set for High perf, etc.)

Any ideas what could be freezing it. Also, it freezes when no projects are running, app is just idle.

Thanks
