Default What\'s going to happen when OSX is released?

OSX (the lickable os!) looks great, and seems to offer some amazing features (the best by far being stability), but will obviously come at a big price -- most of the software being currently used will probably cease to function exactly as it does now. I don’t think this will be a big issue for most other non-hardware dependent and timing crucial applications (graphic design/office and accounting apps seem to suffer less from OS upgrades), but I do see this as a big issue for:

• OMS -- was never really any good, but at least it works. From other posts on this site, it seems OMS is not under development any more. This would mean any problems that arise under OSX may never be fixed.

• ProTools -- It seems would be the perfect app to take advantage of the Cocoa environment, but when? And I assume this would mean a big re-write of PT code.

• Specialty apps -- such as those from Gallery etc.

Does anyone know of developments being carried out now to combat these issues?

I heard a rumor awhile ago that Avid and Digidesign were favorably impressed with OSX and therefore I would assume that they're planning something. And I don't see how they could do that without either addressing any serious OMS problems or coming up with a replacement.

anyone else hear anything?

My guess is EMagic will be quick to step to the plate, as they are with all updates, and integrating new hardware into Logic.

I guess the important thing here is that OS X will be the only OS on the Mac platform within a year or two, so developers who don't support it will lose out as Mac's come bundled with this OS. I've also heard that newer Mac's (UMA 2) will only run OS X.

Any official comment Digi?

None so far. Let's get through 9.0 first.

Hey,

Why don't you guys just skip 9.0 and start working on OSX? No one really needs 9.0 compatibility anyway .

Thanks, I'll take my answer off the air.

Let me get this straight, anything less than 96/24 sucks, but MP3 sounds great!
