I just upgraded 2 weeks ago from an old PCIx to PCIx Chassis by purchasing the upgrade kit which enables me to use a PCIe MacPro with my old PCIx HD cards and chassis. The kit was $1450 and it's working perfectly so far with my HD3 Accel system.

Thank you Jim for all of your advice.

On the Magma site, there is no mention (that I can find) of 2 different models of the PE64 6 slot. Ive read around here that one model is noisy and the other is not.

Does anyone know if this is true? If so, is it simply that the OLD rev. were noisy and the current ones are not ?

Thanks!
MT

I've got a 4 slot Magma with a HD2 PCIx system, it's been happily running for the last 18 months with no (chassis related) problems.

The newest ones were quiet for awhile and then, for some unexplained reason, went back to having noisy power supplies. I'm not totally sure but I think that Magma has once again resumed shipping with the quiet supplies. Mine came with a quiet supply and it is the newest model, the I Pass one. You should call them and ask about what they are shipping now. They're pretty good about answering questions buy phone.

What is the $1450 kit, please? Are any of you running PT9 with the Magma PE6R4 chassis? I so, with what Mac Pro?

Thank you,

John Caldwell

There "were" 2 models:

1. PE6R4, the one with 2 infiniband cables and louder fans.

2. PE6R4-I, the one with 1 I-Pass cable and quieter fans.

I do not know of a PE6R4-I that randomly shipped with "noisy" power supplies. Give Magma a call, they should know for sure.
