Re: virtual iLok USB key
but still avid can't block usb io support. that must be done by the provider of the os. Apple in my case...
anyway, why would they want to block a dongle server?

Re: virtual iLok USB key
You're completely missing what I'm saying. Avid wouldn't be blocking the USB I/O support hardware wise but blocking the company from allowing this to be used with Avid software. And it's not only Avid but other s/w developers as well. Actually it might even come down from the iLok people themselves to put out a cease and desist order on this or even change the iLok s/w itself to prevent use of this device.

Re: virtual iLok USB key
I totally get what you are saying.
I was interested why you think that Avid would make the effort to block this and what their benefit would be. just to clarify what this usb server is doing. it emulates a hub connected to the macs USB port. for the OS no difference to a directly connected ilok/usb device. you can't share the USB port, but you can "virtually" unplug a device from one computer and plug it into another. think of it like a thunderbolt dock. you connect an ilok to a usb port via thunderbolt and you could switch computers without touching the ilok by plugging the thunderbolt cable into the other machine.

Re: virtual iLok USB key
True; I thought I mentioned that it might be more iLok themselves but I'm sure Avid would have a hand in it as well.

Re: virtual iLok USB key
thing is it solves a problem for Education customers that want to use iMacs but need to keep the iLoks in safe place.
