Default Cocoa rewrite when?

Digidesign, when are you guys going to ship a 64 bit native Cocoa PT app? The use of the Mac OS 9 Geneva font and the Arial font is not a good look in 2011, nor is it compliant with Apple's GUI design guidelines. Lucida Grande is the system font that is supposed to be used. I'm sure Apple have mentioned a few years ago that Carbon 64 bit has no future and they told developers years ago to re-write their apps' GUIs in Cocoa. Here we are still struggling away with an expensive flagship audio application with a crufty GUI that dates back to System 7.

Check out Autodesk's AutoCAD written in Cocoa. It's a very nice design and provides a dark and a light grey theme to suit users' preference.

I think it's about high time a modern compliant app (including plugins) is delivered to your paying customers.

Regards

Just rockin'...what more is there?

You have a problem with Lucida Grande?

Yes. Sigh. I somehow think Avid does not need to be told all the time like this what they need to be doing... like 64 bit etc. has to be a priority for them, they are not stupid. They get it. None of this transition stuff is easy. What I really don't want Avid to do is destabilize what is working now, break things rushing this. What !@#$% font or UI decoration the app uses now is not critical.

Umm... you mean like those GUI guidelines which Apple completely ignored with the latest iTunes release?

Put the blame where blame is due. Arial is a MS abomination that we now all must suffer with

The Scourge of Arial

<SNIP>

When Microsoft made TrueType the standard font format for Windows 3.1, they opted to go with Arial rather than Helvetica, probably because it was cheaper and they knew most people wouldn’t know (or even care about) the difference. Apple also standardized on TrueType at the same time, but went with Helvetica, not Arial, and paid Linotype’s license fee. Of course, Windows 3.1 was a big hit. Thus, Arial is now everywhere, a side effect of Windows’ success, born out of the desire to avoid paying license fees.
